CO2 Fire Extinguisher Typical Installation
-consideration should be given to the provision of fire extinguishers suitable for use on electrically energised equipment (CO2, dry powder) and cooking oils and fats (wet chemical). Such fire extinguishers should be located between 2m and 20m from the hazard.
-Selection and location for significant switchboards A carbon dioxide or other type of fire extinguisher having an E rating shall be located between 2m and 20m from a significant switchboard.
Installation Height
No extinguisher should be mounted higher than 1200mm (120cm) off the floor. The bottom of the extinguisher should be no less than 100mm (10cm) from the floor.
Mounting the Extinguisher to the Wall
The majority of fire extinguishers come with a wall bracket with the remaining smaller extinguishers being supplied with a vehicle bracket. The wall mount is simply a small hook that requires 2 wall fixings.
Considerations
When installing fire extinguishers, our experienced fire technicians consider the following:
-What is the correct type of fire extinguisher to install on the premises?
-Does the fire extinguisher rating provide sufficient square meter coverage for the premises and the level of associated fire risk
-What type of wall is the fire extinguisher being mounted to And which fixings are best suited to mount the extinguisher to that wall?-The weight of the fire extinguisher (9kg dry powder fire extinguisher weighs 14Kg+)
-Are there any cables / pipework behind the installation wall?
-How much foot traffic the extinguisher will be exposed to (Low traffic areas are ideal as it helps prevent accidental demounting, damage and misuse of the extinguisher?)
-The extinguishers accessibility in the event of a fire?
-The surrounding environment (Does a cabinet also need to be installed or a UV cover placed over the extinguisher to prevent it from the elements or reduce misuse?)
